The Watercolors Are Finished!

Fall is on it's Way Abstract

“Fall is on it’s Way”   –   Abstract  2 of 2

After months of agonizing, awake off and on all night, and thinking about them all day, I finally finished.  Once I got my right brain working, and started seeing how the acrylic colors looked over the water colors, I began to really get into it.  The first one I have posted, but the last one is the one above and is now finished.

I know my friend will love them.  They are very colorful and happy.  That is really the only way I could work on them.

They had to let me know it was ok to color them happy!

Are they happy to you, or do you prefer something more subdued?  I always love color, color to me is joyous and happy.  It helps ground me, and energizes me.   We are all so different.  Many of you would prefer softer colors, calming colors, colors that help you relax, & possibly help get you in a meditative state.  I understand that also.

Let me know what you think, what you prefer, and even let me see the kind of art you love.   All art is from the heart,  that must be why we are so darn sensitive about showing it.  No judgement here!  I’m struggling just like everyone else, and the more I do the better I get at it.

My son Chris tells me that,  “it’s the journey, not the finished product. ”

Art is healing, it’s a process, and we always have it when we most need an outlet.

The Cold Wax Process

Image

A cold wax, and oil paint demo from Kim Sobat.  I have looked all over YouTube for a simple explanation of using these two mediums together, and this is it.  I hope you find it interesting, and useful.  So far I’ve tried it on a watercolor painting I just finished, an acrylic abstract, and recent oil painting to help preserve it.  The watercolor painting, and the oil did well.  However it seems  to me that it just presents more problems for an acrylic painting.  The one thing I haven’t tried is mixing the cold wax with the acrylic as I’m using it.   Rather than trying it on a painting, I think it might be better trying it on a small sample of watercolor paper.  What do you think?

As Kim’s work continued, I slowly began to see what he was trying to achieve.

Each time he put another color on his paper, I thought….hell no!   But as it progressed I could see where he might be going with it.  Then as Kim finished it up, I began to really like the completed piece.

Maybe it’s worth trying cold wax again!

One of My Favorites!

I refer to Bob Burridge often, and that’s because he is not only abstract but he has fun time painting and ……he’s loose!

Loose is something I aspire to on a continual basis.  Recently I’ve decided if I can’t play like a kid, I don’t want to play.  But, I do want to play, so I must change my evil ways.  I’m playing, and having more fun..

I hope you enjoy Bob Burridge, he’s one of my favorite artists…..

Putting It Together…

Why do you suppose we create a project and stop just before it’s finished?

I do this all the time,  I start a project, and I’m over it before it’s completed.  Is everyone that way?  I’m over it, and ready to move on to the next thing.  This is clearly a flaw in my personality!

This is exactly what I’ve done with the “Woodland Spirit Doll” series.  I started these dolls when I was just out of the hospital and recuperating from hip surgery.  They were given all the patients and love, one would give a new puppy or a child.   Slowly they became little people and started to speak to me in a way that prompted me to give them each a different personality.

But, soon I realized they were far too delicate to place on a table or place on a nail and hang on the wall.  They needed protection…a box to place them in.  Now I’m getting into an area that I never planned to go to.  Boxes holding art pieces just hasen’t been my thing…but it is now!

I have put the largest into a frame with glass in front, and not wanting to remove it, I forgot to take a picture before putting it together.  The picture I did take, has a my reflection in the glass.  I apologize for this, I’m sure many of you can relate to this.

This is the first of the four Woodland Spirit Dolls, all mounted into a black glass covered box.  Once I get them mounted I’m finished.  The boxes have been purchased, and to top it off, I have dropped the fourth and smallest box and broke the glass.

Way to go Karen!  Sometimes one has to shoot themselves in the foot before the finish, just to make things fun!

The third and forth of the dolls are not yet finished, but when I’ve completed them, I will definitely post them.

I very very much appreciated all of you reading my post, it keeps me going.  Thank you

Time Out For Art

Image

There are many kinds of art, not all require paint, or a pen and ink.  Think about it, there is an art to almost everything we do in life.  Gardening, and the love for it,  is in itself an art.  Music is an art, and kinds of music are all individual arts.  So, the fact that this group has come to put comedy and music together is an entirely different kind of art.

These musicians are in a class by themselves! Many couldn’t put all this together  in the name of comedy.  There are many such videos on YouTube to look at, and I hope you enjoy this particular kind of classical art.

Why don’t we create paintings with music in them?  Or literature with a melody?  Those who read incessantly, or paint with passion will tell you that most literature, and even paintings have a melody in them.  It only takes our mind to open up our eyes, and see what is in front of us, and often what others see.

Today has been inspired by Zebra Designs & Destinations.  They are located in Equator where the recent devistating earthquakes have taken place. I wish them all well as they recover.  My blessings to them all.

Creating Spirit Dolls

Driftwood Spiorit Dolls

Driftwood Spirit Dolls

While I’ve been recuperating from surgery, I’ve been creating Spirit Dolls.  My son gave me three beautiful pieces of smooth driftwood, and all I could see were faces in them……so that’s what I did!

I put faces on them and created spirits with moss, and shells, metal hearts and anything else that felt right.  Later I will show them as I finish them.  It’s a little slow right now, but I work on them a couple of times a week, and then I need a breather.  With all the other things I “have” to do to recuperate, I don’t have a lot of energy to spend in my studio.  It’s always on my mind, and in my heart, and I want to show them to you, it will just take a little longer than I’d like.

If you need any extra creativity ideas there are so many things to just run into on YouTube, and sometimes I’ll take my computer into bed while relaxing and just scan all the how to videos.  It’s a terrible time sucker, but it’s impossible to be upright all day!
