Under the Russian Sky

Full Moon on the Russian Sea

Full Moon on the Russian Sea

After our ship left Finland, we cruised all night to get to St Petersburg Russia.  During the night I awoke to a  cabin filled with moonlight.  As I got up to investigate, I realized this in part was because we had been leaving the sliding door to our balcony open all the night for fresh sea air, and because we had a full moon!  I was so in awe when I realized the beauty of this  full moon on the Baltic Sea of glass, that I quickly  scrambled for my iPhone to take a picture.

Admittedly, you had to be there, but I thought it was so beautiful.  So much so that, I had to hold myself back from waking up my husband just to  show him.  Isn’t this breathtaking?

Our entire cruise was like this, barely a ripple on the Sea, so much so that my husband, Les didn’t even wear his sea-sick patches, or his wrist bands the last day as our ship was cruising back to Stockholm.  This was our fourth cruise, and the most calm sailing of all four.

More Adventures About Dusty and Bubbles…

Bubbles is growing…..and growing fast.  She is a Giant Flemish Rabbit, and she is taking that title seriously!

Bubbles ex[loring her options.

I’m told by her humans that she is exceeding Dusty’s growth rate.  Dusty, and Bubbles haven’t officially met as yet.  Bubbles has her place in the house at night, and Dusty has a new, larger and even better place to live outside under the club house.

Dusty loves his new home, it gives him  a lot of extra room without having to be in a cage.  Dusty’s old cage is now Bubbles new home while outside, but since she is young, and it’s  really hot where they live, she only gets to go outside when it cools down.

It turns out that giving Flemish Rabbits too many of the foods that Bugs eats, like carrots,  and such, will stunt their  growth.  So for now, Bubbles’  humans will only feed her rabbit food.  But she can dream can’t she?  I swear that bunny can smell food right through the door!  Let  me asssure you, both Dusty, and Bubbles are getting plenty of love and attention.

Dusty is getting to be a bit of a handful since he’s gotten older.  Personally I think it because of all the bunny testosterone.  But that’s just my opinion.  He is still lovable, and so funny to watch.  He still loves to chase the kids around the yard, and act just exactly like a dog!  Maybe he thinks he is a dog.

Bubbles on the other hand, is a little, or not so little, love bug.  She is so soft, and personable I can’t believe, how anything could be that soft is beyond me.  I’ve really never been a bunny person, but    we did have a bunny when my daughter was little, and we lovingly called him “Stew Bunny!”  We never intended to eat him, it was just a cute name, however just so you don’t have to ask,  we don’t eat our friends.   Never have, and never will!

I want you to know that there will be more in the lives of Dusty, and Bubbles, and we thank you for reading our blog.

Cruising the Baltic Sea…

Stockholm

Stockholm

This year we were privileged to be able to take two vacations, and they are much different from what I had imagined!  Friends of ours asked us to join them on a cruise to Russia this year, and after much thought, we decided it would be fun and interesting.  My husband didn’t have any desire to travel to the Baltic Sea, and I can’t say I’d given it much thought either, but after looking at the itinerary, we decided it was an adventure of the “Happy Accident” kind!

We flew into Amsterdam, then on to Stockholm Sweden. The cruise left from Stockholm, and for seven days we were fortunate enough to have smooth sailing on the Baltic Sea!  Smooth enough that my husband who never leaves home on vacation without his trusty sea-sick patches, didn’t even use them.

He what?

Les’  not using the sea-sick patches came about because our luggage was lost, and the patches were in the luggage.  I did however see a moment of panic in his eyes when he realized the patches  were in that particular piece of luggage.

After the realization of not having the two bags that we never wanted  to lose set in, we started gathering the most needed of necessities such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, and…….sea-sick patches.  Of course since the patches were a prescription, and not easily replaced, we found the sundries department on our ship.  Fortunately, they had wrist bands that put  pressure on specific points on the inside of the wrist.  Once on, they squeeze so tightly that I’m sure it’s convincing that they are working.  The fact is….not only did they work, they worked well!  This I say because my husband,  Les  never once threw up on anyone, or anything.  The real truth is,  the sea was so calm, we couldn’t believe it.  I have never been on a cruise like it before, and probably never will again!  At the end of the cruise, even my husband didn’t bother with the wrist bands.  This is an act of bravery on his part for sure, because in the past all that needs to be mentioned is boat, and I have a green husband.  So to not wear the bands was a huge leap of faith for this man!

Pride shot through me as we walked into the dining-room for dinner on that  last night.  Everyone asked why I looked so different?  I wanted to shout it out from the balcony in the dining-room that my husband wasn’t wearing any wrist bands, but I contained myself if only for the sake of our traveling companions.  This was  a huge gift Les had given me, the gift of knowing how brave my partner in crime was on our trip cruising the Baltic sea,  and Russia.

Thank you all for your interest in the ramblings of our adventures.

Thursdays Time out for Art…

Inspired by Zebra Designs & Destinations, this is my final post for the month of July…..

Sage's hand made doll.

Sage’s hand made doll.

My Granddaughter Sage recently spent a couple of days with us, and while she was here she asked to make a doll.  Shamefully, I purchased the muslin doll at Michael’s, and Sage picked out the buttons she insisted needed to be the eyes, the jewel nose, and I found the heart in my stash  for the “Heart!”  I had bought hair at her request, and misplaced it, so I found the yarn for hair in my stash.  Since I was unable to find clothes to buy, I sent her home with a doll without clothes for her mother to find!

Isn’t it wonderful being a Mixed Media artist, and saving all the things that speak to you, and then just when you need it most – looking through all the stuff – you find the perfect yarn for hair, or a perfect red heart to place on the chest of a special doll?  Pulling out my trusty glue gun, a needle, and embroidery thread…..it all came together!
