Thursday Time Out for Art

Image

This is what happens when you have time on your hands, and are too lazy to do anything else!

This little journal page was created last year, when I was having a difficult time creating something larger.  There are times when one just needs to contemplate, and be left alone.  I’m guessing this was one of those times……Journaling does the trick.  I don’t think there has ever been a time when slowing down to do little sketches, or doodling a little doesn’t help relax me, and open up the door to larger art.

Zebra Designs & Destinations sponsors Thursday Time Out For Art, and right now they are having a tough time with the weather.   Waves have hit on the beach of their little town El Matol in Ecuador, and things are looking very sketchy.  When storms hit their little beach  they erode the beach, and the waves get even closer to their homes and businesses.

El Matol needs all our positive thoughts, and prayers to help them.

I thought maybe some of you might like this.  It’s creative, fun, and you’ll be surprised at the results.  I’ve  used this technique in many workshops, and we always have fun doing it. I found it on YouTube, as I do many interesting videos.

Inspiration and Time Out For Art are sponsored by Zebra Designs & Destinations.  If you haven’t checked them out, I hope you’ll find time soon.

The Magic of Painting

Image

I ran across this video, and thought it perfect for my blog.  One could say it is the beginning in an abstract course.  That’s true in a way, but it’s much more than that.  I think abstract painting need only be as  complicated as you want it to be.  Most of us over think, I know that’s my problem.

For me, if you start simple, the painting will take its own turns, and twists that are  never expected.  That is what Rita Siemienski claims.  She lets the painting take the turns it wants, and runs with it.  My favorite kind of art!

I think this is a great video because it’s simple, it allows the viewer to slip into their abstract  art in a much more relaxed, and stress free way.  Again,  that’s my kind of art!

A gentle reminder of how easy abstract can be, and how to get out of our own way!

Gentle reminders never hurt, after all isn’t that what we artists do……share energy, ideas, and helpful advise?

Holiday Ideas…

Image

Since we are now officially into October, the pressure is on for parents, and grandparents all over the globe.  The holidays are quickly coming, and those of us with smaller children, or children that are not so small, but are pretending to believe…(In the big man with the red suit)!  This isn’t just for those who celebrate Christmas, but celebrate the holidays in other ways as well.

The Hoverboard is just one idea for the older kid who is on the cusp of realizing if they still believe…..they will have more fun, and the holidays will still be all about them!  I know these are a little pricey, but this may be something your child or grandchild has wanted for a long time.  This little video tells you so mych about how easy it is to ride, and much more.  I have included a link to Amazon.com as a starting point for your research.  There are reviews on Amazon, and that’s where I start when researching a product I’m thinking about purchasing. FYI:  These come in different sizes, and different prices.  I’m told they are all made by the same company under different names, and I think this one is made in USA.

There is so much this time of year to do, and never enough time to do it in.  A huge effort is made in our home to relax and enjoy life regardless of the time of year.  The closer to the holidays we get the more frantic things become.  We still have little kids, who still believe, and far be it for me to tell them otherwise.  It is the children who make the holidays special in any home.

Sales, Sales, Sales

Any minute now we should be getting the holiday sale catalogues and adds for stuff you don’t even want.  Yippy…..more junk mail.  Soon we’ll need a larger recycle barrel.

Still it’s an exciting time, and as a grandma….I’ll will never get away  cheeply.

Coming Out of The Fog!

It's too warm.....

It’s too warm…..

As the weather warms up, I’m warming up as well.  I have ideas!  Ideas for painting,  decorating, gardening, and ideas for fashion.  It’s been important for me to stay away from stores in general.  Everything except grocery stores, and that seems to be just as dangerous.  (I love to shop, especially if it is for me.)

My tomato, and bell pepper plant are growing big. The cilantro, has decided to throw in the towel, and  be compost.  The  celery along with a new organic parsley plant  are  growing quite well.  This gives me hope that they too will survive.

The lawn, well we have stopped watering the lawn altogether.  The drought has pushed us into a brown lawn, maybe brown dirt is a better way to describe it.     It takes a lot of work, and a huge amount of water to keep our lawn green and healthy looking.  Then….. there is Daisy, our dog!  She is helping make the decision to eliminate grass.  Between the drought and Daisy, our lawn doesn’t stand a chance.  Although I have wanted to do something different with that area for a long time, anything I want to do isn’t affordable!

All the other plants are fine.  We have just about totally replaced water guzzling plants with drought tolerant plants,  and anything that doesn’t live around here,   will get replaced with a boulder!

They don’t take much time, or water…..they just sleep a lot!
