The Search For Alternitives!

In the middle of the worst drought we’ve had in a long time, Coastal Southern California is getting rain.   It’s spotty, but it’s rain, and when it comes down – it really comes down!

The question is,  when will it rain next, and how can we make this rain count?  Right now we’ve been on water restriction, with our lawns getting only three days of water a week.  Most of us, ourselves included have the kind of grass that needs watering every day.  So even cutting back to three days shows.

There are now rumors that we may have to let our lawns die, and not water them at all.  Our drought is that serious!  I’ve listened to all the experts, and indeed we have a serious shortage, yet some people aren’t listening.  They still water each day, and wash down their driveways.  I love the look of a clean home, but hate that they are wasting water like that.

Our house is dusty, leaves have fallen, it’s windy so sweeping them up doesn’t work well.  The only thing that really does the job is water, and we aren’t using water.  Our lawn in the back,  although may not look  too badly in the rain, is quickly giving up, and each time the dog goes out there, it looks a little worse.

Is there an answer to this?  Maybe taking out the lawn and replacing it with flagstone.  That works for me, as I  dislike having to spend so much time and money keeping the lawn looking alive, and thriving.

I have to admit,   I have given up on the lawn, and am searching for alternatives…..

Cards, Cards, and More Cards!

Did you ever start something, and couldn’t stop?
That’s what has happened to me. I started making my own greeting cards, and I can’t stop. When I start another creative project, I can work on it for a while, and then something calls me back to making cards.

These are just a few, but I can’t stop!

Saturday found me working on my cow, and another canvas I have had at least three paintings on it.  The cow is most definitely a work in progress, and as I glaze, I have to wait for it to dry.  While the cow was drying, I started looking at a canvas that has had at least three different paintings, and now it is covered in gesso, and will have another.  My intension is to abstract it, but at this point who knows?

In my studio I sit watching the canvas, and wondering what it will say when…..I start thinking about cards again.  This time I pulled out some cotton/silk paper with leaves in the paper, and suddenly I think…butterflies.   OMGosh I might need to be rescued, or even distracted by someone, because I’m thinking I’m out of control!

Do any of you like making cards?  I find it a really good way to get unblocked too.  Cards and painting rocks!

Thursday Time Out For Art

Buddha

Buddha

I finally finished the Buddha painting!

Admittedly it has taken me forever, but finally it came together, & now I’m content with it.  It most definitely was a push and pull to the finish line.

Zebra Designs & Destinations has in part provided me with inspiration, and I’m grateful not just to Z, but to my Diva  sisters as well.

Call Me Crazy…

But I really love how this painting came out.  Morning Sun on a barren forest has all the fun I could muster up  telling  it’s story.  Collage, rice paper, the glistening gold of morning sun, shadows.  It’s simple, and I like that.  Sometimes I go simple instead of finishing.  My diva friend tells me …..More is Better?  You tell me!
