About Old as Dirt & Proud of It!

Welcome to Old As Dirt, and Proud of It by Karen Samenow. I named my blog Old As Dirt And Proud of It because that's where I am in life. You may find art or music, or inspiration included because, I'm an artist, a spiritual medium, and I'm always learning more and exploring. I hope you find us interesting. My focus for this blog is to bring a little levity to well seasoned women. Sometimes it actually may help!

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and I noticed a distinct slowdown in the overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0.

In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as News 5.0, Money 3.0 and Cricket 4.1.

Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and Housecleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system.

Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?

Signed,
Desperate

Dear Desperate:

First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an operating system.

May we suggest that you enter the following commands:

  • ithoughtyoulovedme.html
  • try to download Tears 6.2
  • install the latest Guilt 3.0 update.

Happy January 2, 2015

Image

It is hard to believe that once again we are starting a new year.  Most likely we are all still spinning from  the end of the year celebration, and just the speed at which 2014 flew by.  I’d like to slow down this new year, but I know that isn’t possible.   Sadly the faster it speeds by, the older I get, and the older I get, the slower I get, and the faster the year speeds by.  No wonder my head is spinning!

With holiday decorations taken down, and all of us  working at getting back to normal, it is my hope that all of you will have a very prosperous, exceedingly healthy, wondrously happy 2015…..

Last year my catch word (In place of a resolution) was  ” kindness!”  In spite of my grandkids telling me that I was already to kind, & not to be any kinder, I chose to work at kinder thoughts, and demonstrating more kindness.

This year my word is going to be  “tolerance!”  Sometimes it is really difficult to be tolerant of others.  They may be slower than we are, or maybe even faster.  They may have a different way of doing things than we do, or maybe they come off as being entitled.  I frequently tell myself, unless we can walk in each other shoes, we haven’t any idea how their life is, or what hurdles they may have to endure. Things aren’t always as they seem.  Therefore, I’m going to really work at being a kinder, more tolerant person.

I hope everyone has survived the hectic end of 2014, and that whatever we all have in front of us will be challenges we welcome, and will make us stronger!

Happy New Year everyone…

Rain Rain Go Away……

The rain has started 12/14

The rain has started 12/14

All our animals want to go out to play!

Just about the time we think the rain is over, and the animals can get back to running in the yard,  bam…here comes another shower.  Not only do our animals not want to get wet, I don’t want to have to give everyone a bath because they have created a mud puddle that only  a five-year old would dream of…..

It looks like it’s drying up……..but it’s only a sucker hole!

The sun is just starting to peek its lazy head over the top of the clouds…  It wouldn’t hurt to dry up a little before getting more rain.

My husband tells me that the rain is over!    We’ll see…

This is the last weekend before Christmas, and right in the middle of Chanukah, so any time the rain stops is good for me.  We all need to get things done,  please Old Man Weather, can you give us rain next week after Christmas?

The winds are picking up again, which to me this means we are in for another bout of rain.  My wind chimes are going off like one of the big cathedrals in Europe during a celebration.  I love the sound,  and hope my neighbors are equally engaged in our chimes.

Thursdays Time Out For Art…

Copper on a 6"X6" canvas

For a long while I was into aging everything in sight.  I love the look of Copper once it has turned to green, and everything I could get my hands on seemed to have a green patina.

This little painting I gave to my daughter-in-law for Christmas a couple of years ago.  She spends some of her time Running, working out, and practicing Yoga.   The symbol is copper, that I worked so hard to get just the right patina on.  The figure was foil which I painted.  This was truly art from the heart.

This little piece I created along with three or four others with the same tribal motif for my daughter, and her husband for the same Christmas.

That Christmas was a Christmas of art!  I don’t usually give away my art,  because the family & friends that may be recipients often have different ideas about their kind of  art, and then feel obligated to hang my pieces somewhere in their homes.  They don’t want to hurt my feelings, I don’t want my feelings to be hurt,  and  if your family can’t support you, who can……

My art sisters however, all love art for the sake of the creative process, and I can count on them to love whatever I create, and share!  Each year at Christmas the five of us draw names, and create something special for whoever’s name I have drawn.  Each month we always have a wonderful Diva day together, but Christmas is particularly special because each of us gets to take home a gift of true love for one another, and the creative process!

I feel truly blessed to have my art sisters, and my art friends.  Their creative energy is amazing!

My creative process has been inspired lately in part by Zebra Designs & Destinations.  I hope you will check out a different kind of art from Zebra, and maybe you to will be inspired.
